Cover Letter – Special Education Teacher

Dear Mr. Smith:

I am very interested in securing a position teaching general or special education within the Wayne school district. I have enclosed my resume, along with a copy of my dual certification for your review.
In my current position as Fifth Grade Replacement Teacher at Heartland Middle School, I effectively teach general and special education students in a inclusion classroom setting. Beyond the classroom I proactively involve myself in multiple school wide activities to ensure the successful delivery of quality education programs with an emphasis on reading education.
My ability to establish a rapport with students is evidenced in their eagerness to take part in interdisciplinary units. As a result, students under my guidance have developed and strengthened their knowledge, social skills and both creative and higher-order thinking skills.

In the classroom, I strive to produce a rich learning environment that is designed to keep both advanced and reluctant learners engaged. In addition to using reading and writing workshops, a large part of my teaching strategy incorporates the use of Internet-based lessons. I feel the combination of both traditional and innovative teaching methodologies encourages students to actively participate while expanding their range of learning and developing their computer research skills.

I would welcome the opportunity to meet with you in person to discuss my teaching philosophy and to show you my portfolio in order to illustrate my level of dedication and passion for teaching. Hopefully our meeting will lead to a second interview with a panel of teachers and parents. This would give me the privileged opportunity to learn more about your district’s educational programs and requirements.

Thank you in advance for considering me for a teaching position with your school district. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
