Cover Letter – Social Worker Transitioning to School Administration

Superintendent of Schools
ABC School District
1234 E. Main Street
Any Town, US 55555

Dear Superintendent of Schools:

As a dedicated school social worker with nine years of experience and a pending Building Leadership Certification this spring, I am well qualified for a school administrator position with your school district. For this reason, I was pleased to learn that the ABC school district has a need for a Secondary Guidance Chairperson. I am confident that my professional background, leadership qualities, and credentials have prepared me for this important role.

In my current position as a high school social worker, I am responsible for the guidance, counseling, and advocacy of up to 265 students. With such a large caseload, I face many new challenges everyday. However, through individual and group counseling, a highly visible school-wide presence and an open door policy for students, parents, teachers, and mental health professionals, I am able to keep a pulse on student progress and find solutions to assist students in achieving their goals.

A large part of my work is focused on students’ academic success. Often, this involves identifying underlying issues outside of the classroom that must be addressed and resolved. I am certain that my broad school and clinical experience has provided me with the necessary skills to assist students in overcoming the inherent struggles of the high school culture.

Coupled with my enthusiasm for contributing to the success of committees, programs, and school activities, I can assure you that I will make a positive impact as a member of the ABC school district’s team of administrators.

I would very much welcome the opportunity to meet with you to discuss my qualifications and the requirements of the position in a personal interview.

Thank you for your time and consideration of my application. I look forward to speaking with you soon.
